PATH Seeks Help With Oil Spill Rescue Efforts

Posted on 04. May, 2010 by Jasmin in Grazing in the Grassroots, Oink, Moo, Woof

UPDATE: MooShoes will be donating 10% of all in store sales on Saturday, May 8th and Sunday May 9th to PATH. They will also provide customers with an additional 5% off of your purchase if you donate any of the desperately needed supplies that PATH is requesting.

Important information from People Protecting Animals and Their Habitats (PATH):

Our country is beginning to suffer the consequences of what may be the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The aftermath of the spill will be truly devasting to animals and their habitats across the gulf coast. Kelly Overton and his organization, PATH, have determined a need for logistical, supply and rescue support that will be needed for months to come.

Our Hen House will be following Kelly’s rescue efforts and consistently speaking with him while he is on the gulf coast, from where he will be able to provide information on how you can help the rescue efforts.

Here is Kelly’s report from this morning: “I will be leaving NYC to travel to the gulf region and mobilize a central supply and rescue/information center in the wake of the oil spill. PATH volunteers are currently establishing supply/donation drop sites in locations across the country. The supplies and donations secured at these sites will be efficiently sent to our central location in the gulf region and then distributed to areas of most need.  Below are some items that are needed, as well as an address where you can send them. Items that cost less to buy locally than mail/transport are not included.”

Thanks for the info, Jasmin! Super helpful! I already donated to the IBRRC, even though they use Dawn to clean the birds–some people are encouraging everyone to buy Dawn, but naturally I don’t want to because of the animal testing. But I’ll send an additional donation in the direction of PATH–I’m only sorry that I didn’t know about them a little earlier!

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE MONEY?

The money covers the supplies that are listed in the blog entry and is going to be used to support local groups that Kelly determines are doing a good job. For more info, you might want to listen to our podcast this weekend where we talk to Kelly about this and other topics.

    Hi!
I wanted to donate money, is there also an option with Paypal (I am from Germany and can not send a check)?
Also I would like to donate my Skymiles (Delta). Any experience with that? I know I will need a Skymiles number of PATH..
    Thanks!

I live in Weatherford, TX and would be happy to organize a town wide donation for supplies that you need. I would also be willing to try to get them to where you need them. Preferable in LA.
I can also donate some time to help with the animals. Let me know what I can do to help.

hi toni. how kind of you, thank you. i will pass this on to kelly and request that he either email you back directly or comment here, but in order to expedite that, i’d recommend you also email him directly and offer the same thing you offered here. you can reach him at: khophangan@aol.com. path is spearheading this effort; our hen house has been trying to help shed light on his efforts, but they (path) are the go to, so reach out to them. and thanks again. as i said, i’ll email kelly now.

    Hello all,

PATH is still in/on the gulf – trying to help and make sense of what has and is happening here. We no longer need some of the larger items on the supply list (netting, boots, cameras, tents). It appears the oil is going to continue to flow and that emergency will morph into a gulfwide issue. I do not suggest people come to the gulf to volunteer – YET. The location of oiled shore in Louisiana is almost entirely marsh and hard/impossible to access without local help/boats. Please write PATH at khophangan@aol.com with questions or call us at (617) 354-2826.
