Artists: Our Hen House Wants to be Your Valentine!
Posted on 17. Jan, 2011 by Nick Laccetti in Grazing in the Grassroots, Money Squawks
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and whether you celebrate it each year by giving a giant box of (vegan) chocolates to your cuddle-bunny, crying into a bucket of (soy) ice cream, or just ignoring it altogether (my usual choice), you can do something this year that will support the work Our Hen House does on behalf of the animals, and be creative doing it!
In other words, Our Hen House wants to be your Valentine – but rather than giving us one of those macaroni-and-construction paper hearts you used to make in grammar school (though I’m sure yours were super), what we’re looking for is a little artier. You might be aware that all the proceeds from Our Hen House’s Etsy Shop go directly to expanding our many multimedia projects. What you might not be aware of is that every item in our Etsy Shop was handmade by a member of our family of vegan craftspeople who generously give us their items to be featured on the shop.
If you’re an artist or creative type who makes the sort of items we can sell on Etsy (see the list of requirements below), we would love for you to join our Etsy family. We can’t compensate you with cash, but we will compensate you with our undying love and affection. Plus, we’ll give credit where credit is due: All of your work would be properly attributed on our Etsy page, you will get a bio listed in our public profile, and your items will be featured on our blog, Facebook page, and Twitter. Perhaps most of all, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that your snazzy arts and crafts are playing a part in helping to build a strong voice for animals.
While we will be seeking your contributions all year long, if you can provide us with something appropriate for Valentine’s Day in short order, we will make it part of our special Valentine’s Day promotion.
The Our Hen House Etsy Shop’s requirements are as follows:
- All items must be handmade by you and must be one-of-a-kind.
- All items must be vegan. This means no animal products may be used in the creation of the items.
- All artists must submit a short bio along with their work, highlighting their commitment to animals.
- All items must be dazzlingly beautiful!
Interested, or want more info? Drop a line to Nick at nick[at]ourhenhouse.org. We look forward to seeing your work!
And to think, your mom and dad thought that MFA in Glassblowing was a waste of time.

Nick Laccetti is downright giddy to be the newest rooster addition to Our Hen House. He started as an intern two weeks ago and has already wowed the Mama Hens.
