Giveaway! Vegan Truffles, Just in Time for V-Day
Posted on 25. Jan, 2011 by Nick Laccetti in Oink, Moo, Woof
Raise your hand if you’d like to receive vegan truffles for Valentine’s Day. Raise both your hands if you’d like to receive free vegan truffles for Valentine’s Day. If I successfully got you to look silly (or at least intrigued) with that last sentence, you’re in luck: Our Hen House is having a pair of giveaways, with truffle boxes donated by the generous and talented folks at the all-vegan Brody’s Bakery.
I want to take a moment to explain how delicious the treats made at Brody’s Bakery are. Around Christmas, Jasmin gave me a package of cookies from the bakery, and my partner Calla and I obviously started eating them as soon as I got home. We both thought they were amazing – so rich and tasty that Calla couldn’t eat more than one at a time. I think at one point in the middle of the night I ate three. Clearly I have issues with moderation. I blame Brody’s Bakery.
So, I know what you’re thinking: how do I win those truffles? We’ll be giving away one box through the Our Hen House Twitter, and one through this blog. That’s two boxes total (wow, I’m good at math).
To enter the contest via Twitter:
- If you don’t already, follow Our Hen House on Twitter to become eligible for the contest. If you don’t yet have a Twitter account, sign up! It’s a great tool for receiving real-time news updates and for staying on top of happenings and opportunities in the world of animal rights.
- At around noon (that’s Eastern Standard Time) on Tuesday, January 25, we’ll send out a tweet with the details of the contest and a message to re-tweet to participate. At this point, re-tweet the bejeezus out of that tweet to be entered to win! (Or, more accurately, re-tweet it once, and you’ll be eligible. Though we’d love you to retweet the bejeezus out of it, you only need to re-tweet it one time to be entered to win. And though tweeting it more than once will make us like you even more than we already do, it won’t increase your chance of winning as we’re only counting each person once per contest. You can, however, enter to win both the Twitter contest and the blog contest.)
- The contest ends on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at midnight (again, Eastern Standard Time). We will select one winner randomly from those who participated, and announce the winner on the February 5 podcast episode (we’ll also send you a message on Twitter telling you that you’ve won). At that point, we’ll contact you for details so we can mail out your prize. Though we love out-of-towners, unfortunately, this is only open to U.S. residents.
To enter the contest via this here blog:
- Leave a comment on this post (not on facebook!) telling us all about your favorite vegan treat – cake, (soy) ice cream, truffles if you want to be a suck-up… Be sure to fill out your whole name and valid email address before you submit the post.
- The contest ends at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on February 1. We’ll randomly select one comment, and the lucky person we pick will win the sweet prize. The winner will be announced on the February 5 podcast episode (we’ll also send you an email telling you you’ve won, at which point we’ll get your delivery details). Though you can enter both the Twitter contest and the blog contest, there is no need to comment below more than once, as we will only count each person one time per contest. Though we love out-of-towners, unfortunately, this is only open to U.S. residents.
It’s as simple as that. Remember, if you participate on Twitter and on this blog, you’ve entered to win both boxes! Go for it! (Or don’t; if no one enters, we’ll eat all the truffles ourselves! Yesss!)
Thanks again to the kind folks at Brody’s Bakery, makers of 100% vegan, organic, and gluten-free specialty desserts and baked goods! For more information on the contest, email me at nick[at]ourhenhouse.org.

My favorite Treat? You know that is possibly one of the hardest questions asked.
My Favorite treat must be Sweet & Sara S’mores(And the marshmallows alone!) as well as the S’mores Ice Cream at Lula’s because well, it has Sara’s Marshmallows in it!
Now might I add, that was hard to answer and I could have possibly made a list of say- a million? But I chose one.
(Or 3!)
xo!

My favorite treat is homemade cinnamon buns with Tofutti cream cheese frosting! It takes a long time to make the dough from scratch and wait for it to rise, but it is soooo worth it.

A coffee shop I live near makes absolutely transcendent vegan caramel cupcakes. Mmmm. Scrape the frosting (too sweet and too plentiful!) off of one of those babies and I’ve got a perfect dessert.
