Episode 236: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

By Jasmin and Mariann — July 19, 2014

podcast

Welcome to the 236th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn [transcript], with special reviews by Noah Gittell and Alessandra Seiter

In today’s episode, we squawk about Brooklyn’s weekly food festival (which — lucky for the animals — is very vegan friendly), how extremely annoying gluten-free doughnuts can be, and the book party to end all book parties (as well as a taste of the divine raw grub we ate while we were there). Mariann will wax poetic about an exhibit she saw at the Brooklyn Museum, and why the civil rights art she experienced reminded her of animal rights. And Jasmin will read an excerpt from my chapter in the anthology Running, Eating, Thinking, from Lantern Books.

Screen Shot 2014-07-18 at 10.01.46 AMJoining us today is Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn, the filmmakers behind the new groundbreaking documentary, Cowspiricy, which explores the role of animal agriculture in environmental devastation.

We also have, not one, but two incredible reviews for you today. First, we’ll be joined by film critic Noah Gittell, who will be giving us his take on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from an animal rights lens.

Then, Alessandra Seiter will be joining us to give us an inside look at Terry Hope Romero’s newest cookbook, Salad Samurai(Don’t miss the giveaway of the book, which Alessandra is hosting on her blog, Farmer’s Market Vegan!)

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.

Yeah - a shout-out to the awesome organization I work, the Center for Biological Diversity - the only environmental organization to encourage people to reduce or eliminate their meat consumption for wildlife. I'm so proud to be working on the #TakeExtinctionOffYourPlate campaign :-) And excited to see Cowspiracy.
