This week, Mariann welcomes Adit Romano, co-founder, with Meital Ben Ari, of Freedom Farm Sanctuary, the first of its kind in Israel. Freedom Farm Sanctuary’s mission is to create a change of consciousness in the way humans view the earth, animals, and, just as importantly, themselves. Adit tells of the sanctuary’s beginnings and what she and Meital hope for the future as they expand the circle of compassion.
Jasmin interviews writer Anna Starostinetskaya about the latest in food, culture, and VegNews news. Anna’s lived in a number of countries, loves to travel, and is an expert at scoping out vegan places wherever she goes.
Anna also brings us the news this week; Mariann covers Rising Anxieties!
As always, the award-winning, weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Mariann Sullivan and Jasmin Singer.
Signed into law in 1966 by President Johnson, the Animal Welfare Act turns 50 this year. The Animal Law and Policy program at Harvard Law School marks this anniversary with the conference The Animal Welfare Act at Fifty, which is one of the sponsors of this week’s podcast. This conference will bring together experts from the academic, legal, governmental, and non-profit arenas to assess the past and consider recommendations for the future of the AWA. Friday and Saturday, December 2 & 3 at Harvard Law School. Space is limited, so register now.
This episode is sponsored by A Well-Fed World. A Well-Fed World is a hunger relief and animal protection organization chipping away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering… the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and the suffering of animals used and abused for food. Mending our unjust food system is a critical part of solving the world’s most destructive and persistent problems. Fortunately, the plant-based foods that promote health and well-being are the same foods that conserve resources to better feed the world, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. A Well-Fed World provides the means for change by empowering individuals, social justice organizations, and political decision makers to embrace the benefits of plant-based foods and farming.
