Episode 365: Artist Sue Coe, and Elementary-School Activist Lula Greenfield Herold

By Jasmin and Mariann — January 07, 2017

Happy New Year and welcome to the 365th episode of Our Hen House! Yes, you can now listen to an episode EVERY DAY for an entire year! And there are many more to come in 2017!

Mariann welcomes world-renowned artist Sue Coe, whose most recent book is entitled The Animals’ Vegan Manifesto. In her extraordinary images, Sue’s advocacy for animals is unmatched in its forcefulness and impact. She requires everyone to view the hidden horrors of animal agriculture and criticizes society’s role in perpetuating the violence inherent in the production of food. At the same time, by valuing compassion over greed and community over self, she calls upon all of us to do and be better. What a great way to start the year!

Jasmin‘s interview with Lula Greenfield Herold, 8-year-old daughter of Beth Greenfield and Kiki Herold and rising star in the activist world, gives us all hope for the future. Lula took the animals’ message to her elementary school and caused some “rising anxieties” for the administration. She inspires us to remember that you can make a difference wherever you are and at any age. Let’s get out there!

And of course, Mariann covers News and Rising Anxieties!

As always, the award-winning weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Mariann Sullivan and Jasmin Singer.

This episode is brought to you in part through the generosity of A Well-Fed World. A Well-Fed World is a hunger relief and animal protection organization chipping away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering… the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and the suffering of animals used and abused for food. Mending our unjust food system is a critical part of solving the world’s most destructive and persistent problems. Fortunately, the plant-based foods that promote health and well-being are the same foods that conserve resources to better feed the world, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. A Well-Fed World provides the means for change by empowering individuals, social justice organizations, and political decision makers to embrace the benefits of plant-based foods and farming.
