alice, thanks so much for writing! yeah, that was a great t-shirt.

emily, i'd say the all-time best place for what you're looking for is herbivore clothing, which you can find in person in portland, or, or online at herbivoreclothing.com. happy shopping! :-)

Speaking of vegan messagewear, can you post some links to stores that have good t-shirt/bike stickers? I know MFA has their own, but do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!

Brilliant. I appreciate the t-shirt/image of the cow impaled on the fork with the outstanding proto-quote "It's alright as long as I don't think about it."

Speaking as an out bi woman this is yet another 'bridge-building' quote as far as the link between oppression of us LGBTs and of all animals.

Many thanks for this info. -- Alice WB, Mpls, MN

[...] This past June, we told you about Mercy for Animals‘ (then) upcoming involvement with the NYC Gay Pride Parade. The animal rights group marched with a banner that read, “No One is Free While Others are Oppressed.” In addition to the love affair that I’m having in my head with MFA for their provocative undercover investigations and their ability to generate mainstream media as quickly as I generate a cup of coffee, MFA has long worked to bridge the connection between animal rights and gay rights. Their current project to that end is the upcoming NYC Wedding March (a.k.a. Marriage Equality of NY march) across the Brooklyn Bridge, where they are asking all animal-loving marchers to wear their MFA t-shirts (if you don’t have one, they’ll provide one for you) and march behind their “No One is Free…” banner. If you’re in NYC, you can find out more information about the event on MeetUp. The shirt I wore to the 2008 MENY march. [...]

Great post. I'm totally into this. In fact, I belong to the Earthsave Canada Readers Group. Tomorrow we are meeting at a vegan restaurant to discuss Eric Marcus' "The Ultimate Vegan Guide", and next month we will be reading and discussing "Kinship and Killing: The Animal in World Religions" by Katherine Wills Perlo.

Yeah, I love books. :) I organized a book discussion through my blog, Good Reads and sending out a Facebook message to friends. I prefer to be able to choose the book myself or choose with specific friends because we'll tend to gravitate toward the same books. VSDC has a book club, but I saw the list of this year's books and did not like the sound of any of the titles, at least insofar as what I am currently interested in reading.

Calvary Episcopal Church in Danvers, MA offers a monthly service for people and their canines. It's part of the Perfect Paws Pet Ministry, through which members of the parish and its rector, the Rev. Thea Keith-Lucas, seek to provide humans and their animals a comfortable and welcoming place to worship together. It's also a place for humans to find joy and solace if they are faced with making difficult choices about their ailing pets. And, we offer pet loss and bereavement support. For all of us involved with the Perfect Paws Pet Ministry, it's a wonderfully rewarding experience. And those who keep coming, every third Sunday of the month, at 5 p.m., for a half hour service that includes Holy Eucharist and homily, the experience of worshipping with their four-legged family members is a wonderful gift.
Puppy mills, agribusinesses for food and fibres, fur ranches and of course ,in humane treatment of cattle, poultry, shhep and pigs is conveniently hidden from the consumer. These works provoke the viewer to think and more importantly feel how other beings are treated.
