Art of the Animal: Gretchen Primack

By Jasmin Singer — January 26, 2011

The newest subject for Our Hen House’s Art of the Animal series is poet Gretchen Primack, whose prolific animal rights themed poetry manages to be both gut-wrenching and painfully beautiful. A tried and true activist who speaks up for so many underdogs — be they women, animals, prisoners, the LGBT community — Gretchen is yet another shining example of how powerful the arts can be when plugged into animal issues.

At one point while I was editing this video, I sought help from the smart folks at the Mac store, who are much more adept in Final Cut Pro than I. After sitting with one of them for an hour, I noticed him start to tear up, and he told me how moved he was by Gretchen’s words. Her writing is profound, much like her passion. I’m thrilled to show you our newest Art of the Animal series video entitled “Gretchen Primack: Poetic Animal.”
