Episode 56: “…clever enough to be crows.”

By Jasmin and Mariann — February 05, 2011

Welcome to the 56th podcast episode of Our Hen House, featuring ethologist Jonathan Balcombe.

In today’s episode, we will give you our reactions to Oprah’s Vegan Challenge, including the good, the bad, and the unbelievably annoying.

Joining us today is scientist, ethologist and author Jonathan Balcombe, who will discuss his research and findings on the sentience of animals, as well as his upcoming book, The Exultant Ark: A Pictorial Tour of Animal Pleasure.

“The Exultant Ark” by Jonathan Balcombe

For our review, we will be joined by Our Hen House’s Hollywood correspondent, Ari Solomon, who will lead us in a colorful discussion about the musical Wicked, from an animal rights perspective, of course.

Plus we’ll announce the two winners of our Valentine’s Day vegan truffles giveaway (thanks again for those, Brody’s Bakery).

All that, vegan banter, and, of course, current events from the world of animal rights.

This week’s news items include:

“If men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows.” -Henry Ward Beecher

Jonathan Balcombe is my favorite, his views and gentle way is so inspiring. I was also thrilled when I saw Wicked. The message was so obvious to Ed and I but I wondered if other folks in the audience were seeing it that way also.
