By Jasmin and Mariann — February 18, 2017

Welcome to the 371st episode of Our Hen House!

Mariann welcomes Dr. Siobhan O’Sullivan, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Siobhan specializes in the politics of animal rights and the animal protection movement, and has published extensively including the books ‘Animals, Equality and Democracy’ and ‘The Political Turn in Animal Ethics.’ On her podcast ‘Knowing Animals,’ she interviews academics (like our very own Mariann Sullivan) and other animal advocates about their work for animals.

Zoe with Indonesian students

Jasmin talks with Zoe Novic about the 4th annual Animal Film Festival on February 25th at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley CA. Zoe lets you know what will happen at the festival and – if you can’t make it to California – how you can sample the films in other ways. (And did you know that Zoe listened to Our Hen House when she was in the Peace Corps in Indonesia?!)

Mariann covers News and Rising Anxieties, of course!

As always, the award-winning weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Mariann Sullivan and Jasmin Singer.

This episode is brought to you in part through the generosity of A Well-Fed World. A Well-Fed World is a hunger relief and animal protection organization chipping away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering… the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and the suffering of animals used and abused for food. Mending our unjust food system is a critical part of solving the world’s most destructive and persistent problems. Fortunately, the plant-based foods that promote health and well-being are the same foods that conserve resources to better feed the world, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. A Well-Fed World provides the means for change by empowering individuals, social justice organizations, and political decision makers to embrace the benefits of plant-based foods and farming.
