Episode 448: Best Of Undercover Investigations with Liz Pachaud, Timothy Pachirat, and TJ Tumasse

By Jasmin and Mariann — August 11, 2018

In this special “best of” episodes we revisit some powerful interviews with some of the most impactful members of the animal rights movement: undercover investigators. First, Mercy For Animals’ Hidden Heroes Award Liz Pachaud discusses her experiences on factory farms around the U.S., as well as some tips for folks who are interested in becoming undercover investigators themselves in this interview from 2015.

Next, our 2012 interview with Timothy Pachirat, author of Every Twelve Seconds: Industrialized Slaughter and the Politics of Sight. Timothy tells us about what it was like working inside a slaughterhouse where 2,500 cows were killed per day – one every twelve seconds. He discusses his thoughts on animal agriculture being used as a metaphor for other forms of violence, he’ll talk about ritual slaughter, and he’ll discuss the question of who is more responsible: those who work in the slaughterhouse, or those who eat the meat?

Finally, TJ Tumasse talks in this 2015 interview about his many years of undercover factory farm work, as well as his efforts heading up undercover investigations as part of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

As always, the award-winning weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Mariann Sullivan and Jasmin Singer.
