Art for Pitties is a new project being organized by activist Jenith Mateja. The goal of the project is to raise funds and awareness for Even Chance, an all-volunteer San Diego-based nonprofit aiming to re-educate the general public about pit bulls.
Jenith is doing just what we love: combining art with advocacy, and using her organizing skills and interest in the arts to create change, raise funds, and gather a community of artists to lend their skills to the greater good.
With Art for Pitties, Jenith is working to put together 30 creative designers, illustrators, and other types of artists, who will each create a one-of-a-kind tote bag to be auctioned off via the internet for Even Chance. In addition to the charity auction, Art for Pitties will include a blog where each artist will have the opportunity to share their own story, including their interest in animal advocacy, promotion of their art or website, or whatever interesting story they feel like telling.
Well, we think this project is just ducky — and so does Rose, the official pit bull of Our Hen House. Pit bulls (a.k.a. “The Nanny Dog” because of how good they are with children) are so painfully misperceived. Because of the work of groups like Even Chance, we have the opportunity to remove the dark cloud that has been lingering over these precious, gentle dogs for way too long.
