It’s that time of year again, and we all have to give a little thought to how to survive (and own!) the holidays as a vegan. That involves everything from how to use the holiday season as an excuse to get out there and leaflet for 15 minutes, to why we should think about bringing yummy vegan treats to our office party (along with the recipe and a “Why Vegan?” brochure), to getting kids in on the vegan fun, to buying vegan gifts that even a meat-eater would love.
We also need to think about how to handle family get-togethers with grace. This can sometimes be trying around the holidays — especially when so many people are touting “peace to all,” while eating a ham. The bottom line is that the holidays are a time for giving, being grateful, and spreading peace (actual peace, the kind that doesn’t involve corpses) — and there is absolutely no reason why vegans and animal activists should be left out in the cold. This holiday season, there are so many ways to embrace the goodness that is indeed all around us (even despite the ickiness), and to inspire others to live in harmony with their ethical beliefs. If you’d like a few more thoughts on this, you can check out our ruminations on holiday survival in “Vegan Cookies and Almond Milk for Santa: Making the Most of the Holidays,”
And (this is really cool), our darling friend and comrade Colleen Patrick-Goudreau just put out a remarkable new video that speaks to all of the above, with the beauty and articulation that she is known for. Watch and share, learn, be inspired, empower and celebrate…
