The Culture & Animals Foundation, headed up by visionary Tom Regan (yep — that Tom Regan, author of, among other things, The Case for Animal Rights), and his partner, Nancy, aims to advance animal advocacy through intellectual and artistic expression. Last year, we were honored to receive a grant from them, allowing our Art of the Animal series to make two more videos — one featuring vegan stand-up comedian Myq Kaplan, and the second featuring visual artist extraordinaire, Sue Coe. All you need to do is visit this unique foundation’s “What We Stand For” page to see how true blue they are when it comes to creating change for animals:
By appealing to individual intellect, creativity and compassion, CAF believes we can awaken people to the plight and grandeur of kindred animals – and ultimately build a deeper understanding of human-animal relationships and a greater respect for basic animal rights.
Can we say “well put,” Tom and Nancy?
I admire Culture & Animals Foundation so deeply for their ongoing support of creative and academic projects that aim to change the world for animals. Foundations like this one, I believe, are among the unsung heroes of our movement. They are behind so much greatness.
If you have a project that you think is up their alley, you need to get on that immediately, because their deadline (the only one for the whole year!) is coming up on January 31. And you don’t need to be a non-profit to apply, either. Previous grants have gone to authors, composers, filmmakers, and performance artists.
Bonne chance.
