Welcome to the 136th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Seth Tibbott, founder of Tofurkey, with special guest Ari Solomon.
In today’s episode, we bite the bullet and talk Chick-fil-A, including having our own discussion that was spurred by some fellow animal advocates’ take on the recent controversy. Our apologies in advance if we piss you off (and our gratitude for those of you who agree with us).
We are, of course, still here in Portland, and we’ll tell you about the recent Portlandia moment Jasmin experienced, involving Starbucks. We will give you the skinny on our quick and gorgeous trip to the Oregon coast, we’ll tell you about an amusement park we visited, where Jasmin insists she beat Mariann at Go Carts. We’ll also let you in on our favorite new vegan restaurant here in the City of Roses.
Oh, and this past week, Mariann also discovered she has a talent for making an impeccable impersonation of a crow. Don’t worry — she’ll share the wealth.
Joining us today is Seth Tibbot, founder of Tofurkey! We caught up with Seth recently when we were visiting Hood River, Oregon, where he gave us a tour of the Tofurkey factory. Seth, who was once an answer on Jeopardy (!), will share his unbelievably inspiring story of how he transformed his tempeh-growing treehouse operation into an incredibly successful business with over 80 employees. Learn how this entrepreneur is creating a legacy by feeding vegan food to the masses.
For our review, OHH’s darling Ari Solomon will give us his opinion of a book he recently revisited, Free the Animals: The Story of the Animal Liberation Front, by PETA founder, Ingrid Newkirk. You’ll find out how the AR scene has changed since this book was written 20 years ago, and how Ari’s own advocacy has evolved ever since he first read the book at the start of his activism.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
