Episode 162: “We need, in a special way, to work twice as hard to help people understand that the animals are fellow creatures, that we must protect them and love them as we love ourselves.”

Podcast: Play in new window

aboutchloeWelcome to the 162nd episode of Our Hen House, featuring Chloe Coscarelli, with a special appearance by JL Fields.

In today’s episode, we have loads to update you on from our vegan happenings this past week, including the Betty Goes Vegan launch party at NYC’s MooShoes, the Vaute Couture vegan fashion show that was part of New York Fashion Week, and a glimpse into a performance art piece called VEAL, which was inspired by Timothy Pachirat’s book, Every Twelve Seconds: Industrialized Slaughter and the Politics of Sight. We’ll also chat about omnis who proclaim that the vegan version of a traditionally-based animal product should be given a completely different name.

Joining us today is award-winning vegan chef, Chloe Coscarelli, whose new book, Chloe’s Vegan Desserts, is being released this week. Chloe, who will appear on “The Today Show” on February 19, will chat with us about everything from why vegan baking is similar to advocacy, to how Paris is unexpectedly vegan-friendly, to which everyday items lurking in each of our kitchen cabinets can easily be transformed into an essential ingredient for any vegan baker wannabe.

Also joining us is JL Fields, of JL Goes Vegan, who will share with us 5 Tips on Relocating as a Vegan. Word to the wise, though: Don’t bypass this useful and inspiring review, even if you aren’t intending on moving anywhere. These tips are relevant even to those of us who plan on staying put, provided, of course, that we’re looking for some useful pointers for mainstreaming veganism in our very own community – even if we sometimes think we’re the only vegans in town (we’re not). JL is a powerhouse; stay tuned to find out why. (And don’t miss JL’s campaign to raise $1,095 — that’s $1 for each day she’s been vegan — to support Our Hen House’s efforts to change the world for animals!)

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
