Welcome to the 169th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Jane Velez-Mitchell.
In today’s episode, we discuss karma, and how the idea that what goes around comes around might only go so far. Looking at all of the hideous suffering in the world, it’s hard to understand that that will be the case. So how do we reconcile that? Do we move toward embracing the idea of karma, even if it doesn’t jive with us, or is it enough to believe that we each create justice, and that should be enough to get us through the rough times?
Speaking of rough times, we’ll chat about creating “happy lists” – and we’ll tell you what’s on Mariann’s! We’ll also talk about our cabinet diet, our newest favorite Chinese dessert, vegan tap shoes, and why the meat that people just simply throw away sometimes seems even more offensive than the meat that people mindlessly consume (even though it’s not).
Joining us today is the fabulous media powerhouse Jane Velez-Mitchell, from the nightly HLN show, Jane Velez-Mitchell. Jane will discuss with us the role that mainstream media plays in terms of animal advocacy – and the role it should play, in an ideal world, when it comes to changing the shape of things for animals. She’ll let us in on the hurdles a journalist must sometimes jump over in order to get pro-animal stories aired, and she’ll give us the skinny on the various ways she uses her various media platforms to speak up for animals.
For our review, we’ll tell you about the award-winning 12-minute Spanish film called The Circular Glance, which is centered around a haunting analogy to animal suffering – an analogy you’ve likely never seen before, and one that will stick with you for a while.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
