Flock members will have an opportunity to win this incredible book!

Welcome to the 180th episode of Our Hen House, Official Honoree of the 2013 Webby Awards. Today’s episode features Linda Tucker, author of Saving the White Lions: One Woman’s Battle for Africa’s Most Sacred Animal.
On today’s episode, Mariann and I tell you about a fast food restaurant’s ad for their veggie burger — which states that the veggie burger is perfect for your teenage daughter who might be going through a phase! We will tell you about how that ad resulted in a very contentious, high profile article starring, well, Jasmin.
We will also talk about a study asking people why they’re not vegan, the importance of bringing animal rights into the conversation whenever and however we can, the skinny on Newport, Rhode Island, and Jasmin’s encounter with a bartender who had a chip on his shoulder – a chip that we like to call “Rising Anxieties.”
Joining us today is author and activist Linda Tucker, author of the new book, Saving the White Lions: One Woman’s Battle for Africa’s Most Sacred Animal. Linda will tell us all about the plight of the white lion, including the roundabout way she got involved with this important cause. She’ll talk about the hideous trophy hunting industry, and the political roadblocks to having lions protected by international law. Linda will also tell us about her life-saving work with Global White Lion Protection Trust.
For our review, we will give you our thoughts on the 30-minute documentary, What’s for Dinner?, produced by Brighter Green. Many people in the developing world are eating more meat, dairy, and eggs, and industrial-scale production facilities (like factory farms and feedlots) are increasingly common. What’s for Dinner? explores these issues in China. Don’t miss our review of this extremely important film.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
