Podcast: Play in new window

micWelcome to the 182nd episode of Our Hen House, Official Honoree of the 2013 Webby Awards. Today’s episode features Laura Beck [transcript] and Kristin Lajeunesse [transcript], with a special review by Gena Hamshaw.

In today’s episode, we’ll tell you everything you didn’t know you needed to know about vegan paella, the LGBT Pride Run, how our neighbors are trying to steal our stuff from the street, and the latest on stupid people with their antiquated ideas about pit bulls. We’ll also tell you about what major television show shoot we accidentally walked directly into, and we’ll continue to share our thoughts on the ridiculous idea that a vegan diet results in more animal deaths than an omnivorous one. Plus, we’ll chat about Jasmin’s new column in The Huffington Post, and her first piece, “The Day I Got Gay Married: Trading in Skepticism for Matrimony.”
We are excited to bring you two interviews today with two fabulous women. First, joining us is Kristin Lajeunesse, from Will Travel for Vegan Food. Kristin will tell us all about her adventures driving across the country and eating at every single vegan restaurant along the way – to the tune of 500 of them!
And then, for our feature interview today, we’ll talk to the brilliant and talented Laura Beck, co-founder of Vegansaurus, Community Manager for VegWeb, editor at Jezebel, and all-around awesomebot. Laura will tell us about how she conveys animal rights messages to her mainstream readership whenever and however she can; she’ll talk about how the vegan scene in LA stacks up next to the one in San Francisco; and she’ll share her thoughts on feminism, and how that interacts for her with veganism.
As if Laura and Kristin are not enough woman power for one powerhouse episode, joining us for our review is the dynamite Gena Hamshaw, from Choosing Raw, who will give us her take on Kite Hill Cheese — the first artisanal nut milk cheese, which is made with remarkable craftsmanship.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
