Podcast: Play in new window

podcastWelcome to the 183rd episode of Our Hen House, featuring Sid Garza-Hillman [transcript].
In today’s episode, we talk about a coat made out of chest hair (yes, human chest hair); the latest in Rising Anxieties; a disappointing klezmer experience; a hilarious video parody of a hot dog eating contest; and the best Fourth of July ever. We’ll also bring you our very first podcast dedication, and we’ll announce yet another new thank you gift that we’re excited to offer to you.
Joining us today is Sid Garza-Hillman, author of Approaching the Natural: A Health Manifesto, and the Staff Nutritionist and Programs Director at the all-vegan Mendocino Center for Living Well located at the Stanford Inn Eco-resort in Mendocino, California. Sid will discuss with us what the word “natural” means; he’ll debunk the Paleo diet; he’ll chat about how to regulate stress; and he’ll share with you his passionate feelings about breakfast.
For our review, we will give you our take on the feature-length documentary, Turlock, by filmmaker Keegan Kuhn, with Spark Media. This film takes you inside the largest rescue of farmed animals in California history, and into Animal Place, the extraordinary sanctuary that rescued over 4,000 birds from an absolutely horrific situation. This little movie might surprise you.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
For a list of the news items we discuss in today’s episode, and then some, take a look at the breaking news ticker at the top of the page, and also check out our list of archived news items.
micYou can listen to our podcast directly on our blog (below!) or you can listen and subscribe on iTunes! Also, if you like what you hear, please rate it on iTunes, and don’t forget to leave us a friendly comment! Of course, we would be thrilled if you would also consider making a donation, or becoming a member of our flock (especially if you’re a regular listener). Any amount is hugely appreciated, and Our Hen House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, so it’s tax-deductible! You can also dedicate a podcast episode! Don’t forget – we’re reader and listener supported. Plus, we offer some fantastic thank you gifts for your donations. Thank you for helping us to create quality content, and for helping us to bring you a new, hour-long (and then some) podcast episode each week!
