Welcome to the 185th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Marisa Miller Wolfson and Brian Flegel of Vegucated [transcript], with special guest Kathy Stevens of Catskill Animal Sanctuary, and Our Hen House reviewer Ari Solomon.
On today’s episode, we start by discussing a few light topics — such as abortion — specifically in regards to how people compare it to animal rights. We’ll also offer an apology, kinda, for something we said last week.
This past week, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Catskill Animal Sanctuary in Saugerties, New York, stay over at their B&B – The Homestead – and get a tour of the sanctuary by none other than the incredible Kathy Stevens. We’ll tell you about our visit, and even share with you some memorable animal stories, as told by Kathy herself.
Also today, we have a couple of sweet-as-vegan-pie podcast dedications that you won’t want to miss. You might even want to dedicate a podcast episode yourself!
Joining us today are Marisa Miller Wolfson and Brian Flegel, from the award-winning documentary, Vegucated, which forever changed the shape of social justice and social experiment films for the greater good. Marisa, the film’s director, will get us up to speed on how things have changed since she started filming 8 years ago, and she’ll update us on the progress of two of the film’s subjects. And Brian, one of the stars of Vegucated, will have us peeing in our pants as he, with his notorious charm and humor, gives us the skinny on how life has changed for him as a result of Vegucated – and boy oh boy, has it! Don’t miss this exclusive “where are they now?” episode. And don’t miss your opportunity to receive a copy of Vegucated while supporting Our Hen House!

For our review, we are thrilled that Our Hen House reviewer Ari Solomon is once again joining us, this time to give us his take on the brand new documentary, Blackfish, a mesmerizing psychological thriller with a killer whale at its center. Blackfish is the first film since Grizzly Man to show how nature, and its inhabitants, can take revenge on man when pushed to their limits. Don’t miss Ari’s unique look into this incredible movie.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
