Welcome to the 192nd episode of Our Hen House, featuring Dr. T. Colin Campbell [transcript], with Chef Daphne Cheng.
In today’s episode, we ramble about a vegetarian prisoner being fed fish against his will, a trip to Jasmin’s home town for some extraordinary Indian food, Bill Clinton’s recent stir-up in the news regarding his supposed veganism, and the problems with making assumptions. We’ll also define a few very important Spanish words for you, thanks to a listener in Barcelona, and we’ll tell you about some upcoming speaking engagements that we hope you can attend. Plus, we’ll talk about vegan supper clubs, and tell you all about Suite Three Oh Six, New York City’s newest one, which is making waves throughout Manhattan and beyond. It’s the brainchild of Chef Daphne Cheng, and Daphne will tell us all about what drives her, as well as give you an idea of what was on her latest 7-course-menu. (Our apologies in advance if this interview makes you ravenous.)
Joining us for our feature interview today is Dr. T. Colin Campbell, whom you probably know best as the author of The China Study – as well as the star of Forks Over Knives. Dr. Campbell, of course, has been at the forefront of nutrition research for over 40 years, and is excited to share with us the inside scoop from his latest book, Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition. He’ll also let us in on his feelings about the medical community at large, animal welfare, and the word “vegan.” Don’t miss this interview with the most prominent doctor in history to mainstream the idea of eating a diet free of all animal products.
For our review, Mariann will give us her thoughts on the new mini-documentaries produced by The Weather Channel, entitled Brink, which – through a series of short webisodes – go behind the scenes into the harsh world of various species of animals who are under attack.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
