Welcome to the 209th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Jo-Anne McArthur [transcript], with a review by Ari Solomon.
In today’s episode, we’ll try to figure out why more than one person in the animal agriculture industry is claiming that veganism is like celibacy, while one famous vegan is claiming that meat-eating is like pedophilia. (Lots to think about there!)
We have plenty of “Rising Anxieties” today, too, covering everything from the ludicrous claim that fruits and veggies are bad for your health, to the barbaric statement that “Nothing converts sunlight into calories more efficiently than livestock.” (Uuuuuhhhh…)
Plus, we’ll ramble about Jasmin’s ancestry, doggie DNA, and the ongoing discussion of how to find the balance between honesty and tactfulness, when advocating for animals.
Joining us today is Jo-Anne McArthur, award-winning photojournalist and activist, star of the documentary The Ghosts In Our Machine, and author of the new book, We Animals, published by Lantern Books, which includes more than 100 photographs shot over the last decade in 40 countries.
For our review, Our Hen House’s reviewer Ari Solomon will share with us his thoughts on Nick Cooney’s new book, Veganomics: The Surprising Science of What Motivates Vegetarians, from the Breakfast Table to the Bedroom.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
