Welcome to the 210th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips [transcript of Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips], with special guest Victoria Moran paying tribute to the late Rynn Berry, and a special review by OHH’s own Liz Dee.
On today’s episode – which also happens to be our 4 year anniversary episode – we will update you on some inside scoop from the coop, we’ll play you a short diddy that Craig Middleton wrote about us, we’ll chat about our own rising anxieties – caused by listening to our podcast – and we’ll answer a listener’s question about whether or not to display a “no fur allowed” sign in the window of their new business. We’ll also squawk about Rachael Ray embracing veganism a little more, when schadenfreude and animal rights overlap, and – on our Rising Anxieties segment – we’ll let you in on why a new mobile app about ethical eating is causing quite the stir within the industry. In addition, Jasmin will tell you all about her recent trip to Baltimore to speak at the Humane League of Maryland’s After the Holidays Party for the Animals.
This past week included a very sad loss for the animal rights community – that of longtime advocate Rynn Berry. Today, Victoria Moran will join us to celebrate the life and work of this author, scholar, and tireless supporter of the cause.
Then, joining us for our feature interview will be Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips, the forces behind the documentary Lion Ark, as well as the powerhouses behind the organization Animal Defenders International. Tim and Jan will talk to us about their groundbreaking work that spans many continents and decades, and they’ll tell us about some very special lions who became an international news story.
For our review, Our Hen House’s Liz Dee will give us her take on veggie meats for your pantry! That’s right – from rehydrated to vacuum-packed, learn how to stock your pantry full of convenient vegan meats, and find out which ones Liz just loved, and why. She’ll give us the skinny on Bob’s Red Mill’s TSP; Butler Food’s Soy Curls; and Elianni’s Veggie Rolls and Veggie Cutlets.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
