Welcome to the 256th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Ingrid Newkirk, with a review by the Vegan Mos’ Ethan Ciment and Michael Suchman.
On today’s episode, we discuss a new study (from Humane Research Council) that details why ex-vegans have fallen off the wagon. We’ll tell you about a news show we were on to talk Tofurky; we’ll give you the latest news regarding Jasmin’s hair (because you know you want to know!); and we’ll ruminate on one animal rights activist’s proclamation that ethical vegans should eat bugs. There’s lots of “Rising Anxieties” today, too, both from our pals over in the animal ag industry, as well as from our very own lives — including a story about the most shocking anti-vegan announcement we’ve experienced in over a decade.
Joining us today is Ingrid Newkirk. Need we say more? Probably not, but we will anyway: Ingrid — who is, of course, the co-founder of PETA — will squawk with us about everything from whether there’s a such thing as bad press, to what she remains optimistic about despite all of the horror she’s seen, to one of her favorite PETA campaigns of all time, to her candid thoughts on the controversial “Holocaust on a Plate” campaign. There’s lots more, too, so definitely don’t miss it — and find out, in the middle of our chat, what made Ingrid proclaim, “Boy, you ask tough questions!”
Then, just in time for the holidays, the guys behind Vegan Mos — that’s Ethan Ciment and Michael Suchman — will be giving us their take on the new cookbook, Vegan Holiday Cooking from Candle Cafe. Get your oven mitts ready, not to mention your party invitation list — you’ll want to get cooking once you hear what the folks behind Candle have cooking for you. (Don’t forget to invite us!)
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
