Podcast: Play in new window

384

Welcome to the 34th podcast episode of Our Hen House, featuring author John Yunker.

Today, as we enter our fourth day of juice fasting, you’ll hear about our kale and carrot woes, our dreams of seitan piccata, and our determination to get through our 10-day fast… or, feast.

The Tourist Trail by John Yunker

Joining us today is John Yunker, author of the new novel, The Tourist Trail. John will talk to us all about his animal rights-themed novel, the importance of fiction as a means of advocacy, and how his experience volunteering with The Penguin Project influenced his book. You’ll have the opportunity to win a copy of The Tourist Trail, so be sure to listen closely.*

Following that, we’ll keep our juice theme going strong as we discuss the results from our Facebook survey which asked you what your favorite juices and smoothies are.

All that, some vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.

This week’s news items include:

  • “Wynn Increases Vegan and Dairy-Free Food Options on Las Vegas Strip” from Go Dairy Free
  • Mercy for Animals’ new investigation (with new spokesperson Bob Barker)
  • “Investigation Broadens in Egg Recall” from The Wall Street Journal
  • “The Feminist Food Revolution” from Ms. Magazine

“A Robin Redbreast in a Cage Puts all Heaven in a Rage.” -William Blake

*Contest: Specific instructions to win a copy of The Tourist Trail by John Yunker can be found on this podcast episode. To enter, email info (at) ourhenhouse.org and note that you are entering this drawing. You must include your full name and full mailing address or your entry won’t be considered. Only one entry per household please. In order to be considered, you must enter no later than midnight on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Winners will be announced on our podcast episode next week (September 11, 2010). The winner will be selected by a random drawing. Please note that we received a free copy of The Tourist Trail for review — as well as giveaway copies — sent by the author. No goods or services were exchanged for the books.
