Welcome to the 350th episode of Our Hen House!
Our Hen House is honored to bring you our interview with Dr. Alex Hershaft, President of Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM) and a founding father of the U.S. movement for animal rights as a whole. Born in Warsaw, Poland shortly before World War II began, Alex survived Nazi persecution and sought refuge in the U.S., where he had a long-running career in materials science and environmental consulting as well as a prominent role in the movement for religious freedom prior to dedicating himself to animals. Dr. Hershaft is not only one of the few remaining who can personally attest to the experiences of the Holocaust, he is also one of the only voices to undeniably relate that experience to the plight of farm animals. He shares his wisdom with Mariann and talks about his latest presentation “From the Warsaw Ghetto to the Fight for Animal Rights.” More information at jewishveg.org.
Jasmin‘s up next with Colleen Holland, co-founder of VegNews. Since its launch in 2000, she has grown the vegan lifestyle brand into an award-winning, international media company. Not only is VegNews the premier vegan lifestyle magazine, it looks good enough to eat!
You won’t want to miss Ian McDonald and “Vegetarianism: The Story So Far,” currently being broadcast on the UK’s leading radio art station, Resonance. You can listen online, too, of course – and get to the root of the roots!
There’s News and plenty of Rising Anxieties, too!
As always, the award-winning, weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Jasmin Singer and Mariann Sullivan.
This episode is sponsored by A Well-Fed World. A Well-Fed World is a hunger relief and animal protection organization chipping away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering… the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and the suffering of animals used and abused for food. Mending our unjust food system is a critical part of solving the world’s most destructive and persistent problems. Fortunately, the plant-based foods that promote health and well-being are the same foods that conserve resources to better feed the world, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. A Well-Fed World provides the means for change by empowering individuals, social justice organizations, and political decision makers to embrace the benefits of plant-based foods and farming.
