Welcome to the 352nd episode of Our Hen House!
comments-avatar-eleni-big-hair-768x768This week, Jasmin interviews animal activist, musician and filmmaker Eleni Vlachos about her latest project, #Comments – a film series portraying verbatim comments from online articles acted out as characters. Eleni started the series to address the inhumanity of our online behavior in a humorous way. The first in the series is a 35-minute film of Eleni and her husband Rob acting out comments from three articles on vegan mayo, two chronicling a lawsuit by corporate giant Unilever (Hellman’s) against tiny startup Hampton Creek (Just Mayo). She wonders: By laughing at ourselves, can we change the conversation?
ethicsMariann talks with Matt Ball about reducing suffering and his review of Peter Singer’s latest book Ethics in the Real World: 82 Brief Essays on Things That Matter. In this book, Singer applies his controversial ways of thinking to numerous issues facing the world, but Matt will be focusing on what he has to say about animals and how we should treat them, and, of course, he has a great deal to say, as always.
Of course, there’s news and Rising Anxieties, too!

As always, the award-winning, weekly Our Hen House podcast is hosted by Mariann Sullivan and Jasmin Singer.

This episode is also sponsored by A Well-Fed World. A Well-Fed World is a hunger relief and animal protection organization chipping away at two of the world’s most immense, unnecessary and unconscionable forms of suffering… the suffering of people hungry from lack of food, and the suffering of animals used and abused for food. Mending our unjust food system is a critical part of solving the world’s most destructive and persistent problems. Fortunately, the plant-based foods that promote health and well-being are the same foods that conserve resources to better feed the world, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment. A Well-Fed World provides the means for change by empowering individuals, social justice organizations, and political decision makers to embrace the benefits of plant-based foods and farming.
