Episode 36: “…we all stand on equal footing…”

Welcome to the 36th podcast episode of Our Hen House, featuring Peter Singer.

In today’s episode, we’ll give you the low-down on why Jasmin was telling a theatre full of perfect strangers all about her adolescent secrets; we’ll discuss Lady Gag-Gag’s recent venture into the dark side (and how some animal activists are fighting back); and we’ll tell you about a protest that Jasmin filmed for PETA earlier this week.

Peter Singer

Joining us today is the illustrious Peter Singer – of no relation to Jasmin, by the way. Peter – who is perhaps the greatest philospher of our time — will give us his thoughts on why animals are important,  how he feels about rights for certain species (such as the Great Ape protections in Spain), and give us his take on in-vitro meat. You absolutely won’t want to miss this exclusive interview with the man who shaped the animal rights movement as we know it.

For the unscientific, unofficial Facebook survey portion of our show, we’ll be begging the question: What do you think is the most effective tool for inspiring people to go vegan? The results may surprise you.

All that, some vegan banter, and of course, tons of current events from the world of animal rights.

This week’s news items include:

• “Animal rights groups face off with scientists over fate of chimps” from The LA Times
• “Your Pet’s Back-to-School Blues” from The NY Times blog
• “EU tightens up animal testing rules” from EUobserver.com

“From an ethical point of view, we all stand on equal footing – whether we stand on two feet, or four, or none at all.” -Peter Singer
