Episode 44: “…to which they are entitled by birth and being”

Welcome to the 44th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Mark Middleton and Ari Solomon.

In today’s episode, we will give you the low-down on two animal rights events we attended here in NYC — one having to do with false labeling, and the other centered all around vegan fashion. We’ll also update you on the pain and gain of our second 10-day juice fast.

Joining us today is Mark Middleton, creator of the stunning and incredibly informative website, Animal Visuals. Mark will talk to us all about the compelling visuals and interactive media he creates to expose the injustices of animal exploitation.

Ari Solomon reviews this film from an AR perspective.

For our review section, we will be joined for the first time by Our Hen House’s new Hollywood correspondent, Ari Solomon, who will review the film, How to Train Your Dragon, from an animal rights perspective.

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.

This week’s news items include:

• “Reality TV Reaches the Chicken Coop” from Anonymous for Animal Rights
• “Vegetables Are the New Meat” from New York Magazine
• “While Warning About Fat, U.S. Pushes Cheese Sales” from The New York Times
• “The Rise of the Power Vegans” from Business Week
• “Steve Wynn: Viva Las Vegan” from Las Vegas Weekly

“For the sake of a little flesh, we deprive them of sun, of light, of the duration of life to which they are entitled by birth and being.” – Plutarch
