Episode 55: “It’s not good for you. It’s good for a suckling calf.”

Welcome to the 55^th podcast episode of Our Hen House, featuring Vegan Outreach co-founder, Matt Ball.

In today’s episode, we will bring you our tales of veganland, including our new Art of the Animal video, our delicious and convenient grocery service, adventures in teaching animal law, and a sweet contest for you that might bring vegan chocolates your way.

Joining us today is Matt Ball, co-founder of the brilliant animal advocacy organization, Vegan Outreach (and co-author with recent podcast guest Bruce Friedrich of The Animal Activist’s Handbook). After sharing the inspiring story of how this powerhouse organization began, Matt will give us tips on good, old fashioned, and effective grassroots tactics.

Today’s Facebook survey will be brought to you by the official Our Hen House pit bull, our pup, Rose, who asks her fellow dog-listeners the question: What kind of vegan dog treat do you fancy?

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.

This week’s news items include:

• “Ecoterrorism: USDA admits mass poisoning of millions of animals” from Food Freedom
• “200 Dead Cows Found in Wisconsin” from The Huffington Post
• “Germany’s Meat Industry in a Panic” from Vegan.com
• “Sticky Fingers on Cupcake Wars” from VegNews.com

Referring to cow’s milk, the late Jack LaLanne once said, “It’s not good for you. It’s good for a suckling calf. Are you a suckling calf?” The ultimate American fitness guru, Jack was on TV when Mariann was just a wee lass. He believed in the power of fruits and vegetables, which was proven by his 96 years of life. Rest in peace, Jack LaLanne.
