Welcome to the 59th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Simone Reyes from Running Russell Simmons, and Drew Winter from The Vegan Sex Shop.
In today’s episode, we will tell you all about the workshop Jasmin led earlier this week for Mercy for Animals, entitled “Taking the Step from Veganism to Activism.” We’ll also share with you our eating adventures through Veganland, including a daytrip to Brooklyn (Eclipse Restaurant has a winning vegetarian menu) and another one to Red Bank, NJ (get yourself to Good Karma Cafe).
Joining us today is Simone Reyes, from the hit show on Oxygen, Running Russell Simmons. A tried and true activist, Simone will give us the skinny on what it’s like to run Russell Simmons, as well as share her take on fur activism and other forms of animal activism. Plus, she’ll give you her thoughts on the vegan-friendliness of NYC versus LA.
For our review, we’ll be joined by Drew Winter, founder of The Vegan Sex Shop. Drew will share his story of starting this new endeavor, as well as give us tips on, you guessed it, vegan sex products. You don’t want to miss this review, at the end of which we’ll announce a contest where you can win your very own Vegan Sex Shop t-shirt!
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
This week’s news items include:
- “Antiwhaling group claims victory” from The Japan Times
- “American Bar Association Supports Social Justice for Victims of Animal Cruelty” from Change.org
- “Today’s Lab Rats of Obesity: Furry Couch Potatoes” from The New York Times
- “Duke, UNC Choose ‘Eating Animals’ for Summer Reading” from Duke University
