Podcast: Play in new window

Welcome to the episode 69 of Our Hen House, featuring Masami Mizuguchi and Kozue Watanabe from Choices for Tomorrow.

In today’s episode, Mariann and I will tell you about our adventures filming the forthcoming NYC Vegan Weekend on a Budget video – including the many sweets we consumed, and the sweet people we ran into, during our very long one day film shoot. We’ll air our dirty laundry a bit and tell you about why things are so overwhelming sometimes, and we’ll talk about ways to keep it under control and avoid burnout.

Joining us today are Masami Mizuguchi and Kozue Watanabe, from the animal advocacy organization, Choices for Tomorrow. Masami and Kozue have been heavily involved in the efforts to rescue animals in the aftermath of Japan’s disastrous earthquake and tsunami.  They will get us up to speed on what has – and hasn’t – been happening for animals, and how we can help out. (Also see our blog post, The Animals of Japan, for more info on how to get involved with these efforts.)

For our review, we’ll give you the skinny on the new movie, Equine Destiny, which exposes the horrors of horse slaughter. It will lead us into a lively discussion about the problems of single-issue animal advocacy.

All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
