Welcome to the 87th episode of Our Hen House, featuring Ben Grossblatt from Suicide Food.
In today’s episode, we will ruminate on everything from the use of anger in our activism, to our fascination with growing and picking kale, to the animal law class that Mariann is teaching.
Joining us today is Ben Grossblatt, the creator of Suicide Food, a truly unique blog that collects depictions of animals who act as though they wish to be consumed. Ben will tell us all about Suicide Food, and will discuss with us the use of satire as a means of working toward social change.
We’ll also discuss the results of our unscientific, unofficial Facebook survey – which was inspired by a podcast listener’s suggestion – where we asked you to explain, in your own words, the importance of veganism as opposed to vegetarianism. The conversation that ensued was unexpected.
All that, vegan banter, and of course, current events from the world of animal rights.
This week’s news items include:
- “USDA: Closing Our Borders to Puppy Mills” from Animals & Politics
- “Calif. lawmakers pass bill banning shark-fin trade” from Associated Press
- “The slow but steady animal rights revolution, from ‘Planet of the Apes’ to slaughter-free meat” from The Daily News
“This is winter wheat we’re sowing, and other hands will harvest.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton
