Hi there, dear Flock!
Alessandra, here–your friendly neighborhood Media Coordinator. Or rather…who used to be your friendly neighborhood Media Coordinator. After a glorious year working for Our Hen House, it’s time for me to fly the coop and focus on such exciting (and stressful) endeavors as my undergrad senior thesis and my post-graduate future.
#PRIVATE#
My relationship with Jasmin and Mariann began when I, on a hopeful whim, sent them an essay that eventually turned into “From My Eating Disorder to My Life’s Purpose: How Veganism Changed Things Forever.” After the article’s publication, the Hens were lovely enough to take a burgeoning writer/activist under their wings, appointing me to head up the marketing of OHH’s first eBook, The Lines We Draw by Sangamithra Iyer. I spent the upcoming summer hanging out with Jasmin, Mariann, and (of course) Rose in NYC as OHH’s intern, before formally joining the team as the Media Coordinator you’ve known for the last year.
During my time with OHH, I’ve co-produced the weekly podcast, handled OHH’s social media feeds, contributed podcast reviews, and more. After my departure, you’ll still hear me on the podcast every so often, but my other duties will transfer into the more-than-capable hands of vegan musician Michael Harren.
I’ll be using my freed-up time writing my thesis on the emergence of the anarchist vegan collective Food Not Bombs in Cambridge, MA in the 1980s, and how and why their activism demonstrates an alternative, more harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
Thank you, dear Flock, for a wonderful year. See you around!
Warmly,
Alessandra
