Dear Flock,
First of all, thank you so much for all the words of support you have been giving me, continually for the past few weeks, as my beloved grandmother became very ill and then, ultimately, passed away. #PRIVATE#It has been a remarkably sad time here, as you can imagine. I have been continually bolstered by your support and love, so thank you. As you probably know, Episode 201 — which we published last weekend — was a tribute to Grandma, including all of her appearances on our show, an interview I did with her at Storycorps — in which she told her life story — and a very special song. Thank you all for listening to it, and for your kind words. I know that Grandma was really tickled at her “fan-base,” and it meant a lot to her that she was able to reach so many people through OHH.
One foot in front of the other …
In the mean time, Thompson Street — A.K.A. Our Hen House headquarters — is donned with light-up snowflakes. The City of New York apparently decided that our street needed a bit more holiday cheer this year, and so it looks festive outside. Needless to say, I guess the holidays are now upon us. Here we go.
One recent gift for which I’m so grateful is the newest member of the Our Hen House team, Amanda Riley, who started today as our Web Coordinator. Amanda is smart and savvy, and I look forward to her helping us out with some of the webmaster stuff, as well as some writing projects. She’s “of the Internet age” — that’s how she put it — and so I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly she picked things up during our training today (many of these things that took me a solid year to learn). I’m sure you’ll be hearing more from Amanda soon enough.
In other news, I’m going to be making my own soy candles. I am having this unrelenting desire to create things, and — when it comes to art projects, anyway — I’m not that gifted at it. So I decided to buy some materials to make soy candles. I’ve been in a brain fog lately, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me when the materials that showed up at my door were enough to start a small company. I guess I over-ordered. It was almost comical (except that it wasn’t). Let’s hope I don’t burn down the building.
Ok, now for the big news! Flock, today I want to give away a copy of the entire set of Nutrition Facts DVDs, courtesy of the genius behind them, Dr. Michael Greger. I’m such a huge fan of Dr. Greger and his work to raise awareness about all the ins and outs of nutrition, including, of course, the value of plants and the harms of animals foods. If you think you know it all, think again, because, I promise you, there are a gazillion well-supported facts in these videos that are going to knock your socks off. I feel so honored to be able to offer this to you, our darling flock.
To enter to win the DVD set, comment below and share one way you plan on taking care of yourself (either physically or otherwise) between now and the end of the year. (I’ll be taking notes.) Be sure to include your email address when you fill out the comment form. We’ll randomly select a winner in just over one week, so you have until Saturday, November 30 at Midnight EST to enter. A randomly selected winner will be chosen and notified on December 1. You can only enter one time.
You’ll win. I know it.
