Dear Flock,
I just sat down to write you a short and sweet message about this week’s flock giveaway, and I accidentally wrote a new column instead. #PRIVATE#Thank God for that, too, because it was long overdue. Anyway, hours later, here I am, so stupidly behind on evening chores that it’s not even funny. I hope you have a second to read my column though. For some reason it is one that means a lot to me, and with that, makes me feel kind of nekkid. So there’s that. Ever write something and publish it and then kind of want to crawl under a rock? Yep…
Anyway! Tomorrow (Friday) we are leaving for Watkins Glen, NY, where we will be covering the Farm Sanctuary Country Hoe Down with the podcast! So stay tuned for a super special podcast episode (a week from Saturday, most likely) that will allow you to vicariously attend this fabulous event.
As for this Saturday’s podcast episode, we’ll be featuring the incredible children’s book author, Ruby Roth, whose new book — V is for Vegan: The ABCs of Being Kind — comes out next week (and stay tuned for a review on our online magazine). And Ari Solomon will be back (again!), this time to give us a taste (!) of Chipotle’s new vegan Sofritas entree. So much more too, y’all.
Oh, and this is killing me (and you’re going to kill me, too), but I can’t say too much about this, but … HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS … wait until you find out who is going to be on our podcast in the near future! Seriously — we have a couple guests queued up who are going to forever change the shape of the Our Hen House podcast!
Speaking of which, Our Hen House is on Stitcher now, too! If you wind up listening through Stitcher, please let me know how it goes. This is new ground for us.
Ok — time for your giveaway! Because Ruby Roth is joining us this weekend, we have an incredible children’s book-themed twofer giveaway just for you (or your kids). Not only do you have the opportunity to win your own copy of V is for Vegan, but we’re also giving away a copy of the new children’s book Steven the Vegan, written by Dan Bodenstein, and Illustrated by Ron Robrah. This is one of our best flock giveaways yet!
Here’s how you can win (and this is only open to flock members):
- Share one of your favorite (non-flock) articles on your Facebook or Twitter page;
- Tag @ourhenhouse if it’s on Twitter, or, if it’s on Facebook, tag our Facebook page;
- Email contest [at] ourhenhouse [dot] org, with the subject line reading “Children’s book giveaway,” and be sure to include your mailing address.
We will randomly select a winner in one week, so you have until midnight EDT on Thursday, August 8 to enter. I hope you win! These are both groundbreaking children’s books that truly foster compassion.
And now, I’ve really got to pack. Even when I go away for 3 days, I bring like 5 pairs of shoes. (You never know when you might need to tap.)
