I loved genConnect even before I was featured on it! But I’m extra excited to tell you about it now that I am!
genConnect is an online hub (sound familiar?) of “world class experts” talking about, well, everything you can think of. It is an extensive and ever-growing collection of videos (as well as articles and online chats) of experts talking to us about subjects ranging from Using Social Media to Land a Job, to — something I’ve always wondered — How to Turn Your iPhone Into a 3D Scanner.
When I spoke a few weeks ago at the national BlogHer conference, I was honored to have the opportunity to sit down and record a number of videos for genConnect, all about various subjects specific to animal rights (duh). The first of my videos was just published, and in it, I talk about the resources we are offering with Our Hen House — from our daily blog, to our weekly podcast — as well as the importance of each of us getting involved with changing the world for animals in a way that makes sense for us. The video is called Change the World for Animals (has a ring to it!), and it’s just a few minutes long, so take a peek! Some of the other videos I recorded with genConnect, but have not yet aired, include the importance of animal adoption, and some easy and fast tips for going vegan. So stay tuned for those either by “liking” Our Hen House on Facebook, or registering for free at genConnect!
Here is the video of me, embedded for your convenience (or laziness):
One thing I love about genConnect, in addition to this video featuring Katie Couric (whom I have a more-than-minor crush on), is that it really and truly utilizes “the internet machine” (h/t Maddow) to help people do shit. It’s like a DIY guide to life. They even have an entire section dedicated to charitable causes.
And I relate to this desire to create multimedia resources to change the world. Clearly that was what Mariann and I were gunning for when we started OHH in January 2010. Other groups do it, too, with their own spin. (Vegan Mainstream comes to mind.) Let’s educate and empower ourselves and each other to go out there and be a steadfast activist, using our voices to speak up for those who, for whatever reason, can’t.
