Danielle Legg here — Our Hen House’s Outreach Manager. Autumn is officially upon us, and the time is here to get excited about digging all of your warm stuff out of storage – the cute hats, the scarves, and, of course, the mitts and hand warmers, too! But … oops! If you’re like me, you could have sworn you put all your wintery things in an easy-to-remember place, yet now you can’t remember for the life of you where you put those beloved confetti hand warmers and the super-soft scarf you’d hidden away …
I’ve got the perfect fix – the Our Hen House Etsy shop! Just jump on your computer (well, not literally) and head on over to our Etsy page from wherever you are – the office, bedroom, kitchen, or washroom. (Okay, maybe don’t shop in the washroom, but you get where I’m going with this.)
The Our Hen House Etsy shop is stocked with absolutely beautiful hand-knit creations donated by Beth Begany. How about a hat, or hand warmers, or knit socks that will keep your feet toasty warm while you’re out leafleting to change the world for animals? And with holidays approaching (eeep! I just said “holidays” and it’s only half-way through October!), in addition to our fabulous knitwear, we’ve also got stunning prints donated by Kathryn Boyd, and gorgeous holiday greeting cards by photographer Beth Lily Redwood.
Or how about some activist tools – for your ears?! Bonnie Goodman’s chatter bead earrings will get the ball rolling on a conversation that can open people’s eyes and change the way they think about animals. And how about her glass hens? I know from personal experience that the conversations that these earrings can start are profound. Not only do I get to talk about my favorite advocacy organization, Our Hen House, but I also get to talk about hens, how they’re treated, and why you’ll never find any parts of a chicken on my plate. While I was recently on a flight, the woman beside me told me how much she adored my little green glass hen earrings. I smiled and thanked her, waiting for my cue to continue the dialogue. When I looked outside, I realized that my moment was upon me: I pointed out to this friendly woman the factory farms beneath us, and I told her what happens to the animals inside. Ah, the power of message wear …
Still not sold? Well, here’s the absolute best part, which is why I saved it until last! From now through the end of the year (read: the perfect time for gift-getting!), our Barnyard Benefactors are matching every single donation, including the donations you make in exchange for one of our Etsy gifts! So when you give $20 and we send you a beautiful knit scarf as a thank-you, your donation is doubled, making the contribution to Our Hen House $40! It’s like three gifts in one! You get to look adorable, and we get double your donation! So just in case you needed an excuse to pamper yourself silly with beautiful knits, prints, glass hen earrings, and holiday cards, you’ve got one!
