Our mantra here at Our Hen House is that anyone can use their own personal skills and interests to help change the world in their own way. Well, we just love it when we are proved right, especially in ways that never even entered our minds.
Consider this fabulous fund and awareness raiser by Wichita, Kansas hair stylist Patrick Lomantini. Not content to limit his efforts to help homeless animals to his own community through the organization that he founded, BarkAid, for the second straight year, he is leaving his own salon to travel the country, with his plan to perform 50 haircuts in each of the 50 states in 50 days. Each day, he travels to a new state where he partners with an animal welfare organization and a hair salon. There, he cuts the hair of 50 lucky folks, who get their hair cut by this award-winning (and apparently tireless) master stylist. Clients need pay no more than $20, which is all donated to a local shelter.
Things kick off on August 1 in Augusta, Maine, so if you need a haircut (or even if you don’t) find out where Patrick will be in your state and start planning your new look.
