We at Our Hen House believe that every time a new medium for spreading veganism pops up, an angel gets her wings (sorry — It’s a Wonderful Life is on TV as I’m writing this and I could not resist). If we’re going to change the world for animals, those of us devoted to animal rights need to redefine and reinvent everything — restaurants, hair salons, schools, and media (to name a few).
It therefore elated us to learn about a new vegan magazine, Laika, which launched just last week. We downloaded a digital copy for $6 (you can also purchase a print version for $11), and were instantly smitten with the Vogue-like spread, with an emphasis on cruelty-free fashion (Vaute Couture founder and model Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart talks animal-friendly style), eats (a scrumptious and sexy “Vegan Secret Supper” club is out of the bag, and I for one am making reservations), animals (there is a stunning photo essay documenting some rescued animal ambassadors who have found sanctuary), and youth (I thoroughly enjoyed the sharp glimpses into some fresh new vegans). Laika is cutting-edge and timely, and my wool-free hat goes off to founder Julie Gueraseva for bringing this new addition to the mix of hot vegan media. I like-a!
