Why not add something truly memorable to your next protest? Obviously PETA is the Queen of this kind of thing, and whether or not you agree with all their tactics, you must admit that they know how to generate press. And when it’s a protest you’re organizing or participating in, press is the name of the game. Protests are a lot of work, so you certainly want all the attention you can get for the effort people have put in.
Last week, a protest in Canada to call for an end to horse slaughter caught our attention — and managed to get media coverage throughout the country. The protestors blocked the entrance to a slaughterhouse, and coordinated protests at the same time in different locations. Good ideas, but not necessarily the type of thing that will get press. The crucial touch, though, was the gruesome bullet hole painted smack dab in the middle of each protestor’s forehead. Throw in some theatrics, and a nice eye-catching photo-op for the press to take advantage of, and you have yourself a whole different animal.
