October is just a tofu toss away. Holy pit bull, right? If you’re looking for an engaging, useful, fun, and feel-good way to start off what happens to be my favorite month of the year — all while deepening your commitment to animal rights and furthering your knowledge-base — you absolutely have got to sign up for the Institute for Humane Education‘s month-long online course, A Better World, A Meaningful Life. The course, which goes from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26 (in other words, last call for sign-ups, folks!), includes inspiring course exercises, conversations with fellow participants, mentoring from the course instructor (in this case, social justice advocate Lynne Westmoreland), as well as a heap of other goodies, like phone mentoring, an online discussion forum, and the opportunity to receive Continuing Education Credits. It is recommended that you set aside 5-8 hours per week for the duration of the course. (I don’t know about you, but that could be as simple as halving your bar time for a few weeks? Or maybe that’s just me? Only kidding!!! Anyway, I digress…)
I enjoyed putzing around a bit on the website for A Better World, A Meaningful Life, which even includes some thought-provoking sample exercises. I’m also kind of gobsmacked by the extremely fair cost for the very thorough online course. $135 is the cost for one person, but there is a family rate offered (2 or more family members) of $100, as well as a group rate (for 3 or more people registering together), also of $100. Methinks this is a pretty stellar way of spending what is the equivalent, cost-wise, of 12 beers (there I go again!).
Register, y’all. This is your last chance to do so. October is almost yesterday.
