National Animal Law Competitions — Register NOW!

Unknown-2One of the best things that can happen to a law student who wants to use his or her law career to help animals is to participate in (even better, win!) one of the National Animal Law Competitions. Presented by the Center for Animal Law Studies in collaboration with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the competitions will take place this year (the 11th!!) on February 21-23, 2014, at Northwestern Law School in Chicago. (Ok, Chicago in February isn’t exactly a vacation spot, but you’ll be too busy competing to notice the weather).
While most of you are familiar with appellate moot court competitions, one of the coolest things about this annual event is that, in addition to the moot court, there is a Closing Argument competition and a Legislative Drafting & Lobbying competition (which, unlike the others, is open to 1st year law students). So no matter which direction you see your career heading in, you obviously need to be there.
In addition to a huge opportunity to learn some substantive law and hone your writing and advocacy skills, the Competitions are an amazing Unknown-1networking opportunity. Both the judges and the other participants are eager to connect with others who have a passion for animal law, and there are plenty of social events that create opportunities to meet each other and, hopefully, commence relationships that could last you through a career of using your skills to help animals. I myself have often been lucky enough to be one of the judges for the moot court (which, I can assure you, is immeasurably easier than being a contestant), and I have always had a great time and learned a lot.
Registration just opened, and spots are limited so if you are interested, you should register ASAP.
