I’m always on the lookout for uplifting music about animals. When activist David Savage emailed me to tell me about his new creation, “I’m an Animal, Please Don’t Eat Me,” I was appreciative of the excuse to momentarily procrastinate. So I listened. And damn. Now I can’t get the catchy tune out of my head.
The indie-folk-esque nature of the song reminds me of The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, another quirky animal-loving group whose youngest member, teenage daughter Rachel, even has a really adorable song that packs a surprising punch when it comes to the importance of boycotting horse-drawn carriages. (I was on Rachel’s radio show earlier this year discussing Our Hen House, and the importance of speaking up for animals — I encourage you to take a listen).
There’s something so gutturally satisfying about musical activists who put their passion into a melody and put that melody out there for all to hear.
