Here’s an activist tool for all of you who like to host screenings. The movie, Chow Down, has finally come out, and I’m ready to bite in. The film follows Charlie — a “devoted husband and father of two” who, like so many others in the United Fats of America — has severe heart disease. You probably know where I’m going with this: Charlie wants to get better, and connects with Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn — a doctor who is sure he can reverse the heart disease through diet. Diet, as in, a vegan one.
Chow Down is exactly the kind of thing that has mainstream appeal. Since heart disease is so prevalent right now, it’s pretty easy to picture film screenings in Anywhere, U.S.A. being sold out. So pick up a copy of the DVD and contact your local community center/YMCA/library/health food store/college so that you can host your own screening of this vegan-minded film.
And stay tuned for this weekend’s podcast for a full review of Chow Down.
