Twitter Chat for the Greater Good

by Jasmin February 15, 2011
written by Jasmin

We recently heard from our friends over at VegNews telling us the exciting and intriguing news about their very first Twitter chat, which is set for February 22 at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m EST, featuring the fabulous vegan warrior, Kris Carr (of the website, Crazy Sexy Life and the new book, Crazy Sexy Diet). A Twitter chat is basically a discussion where you get to ask questions through tweeting. Everyone who is interested can then follow the thread through the beauty of hashtags (these little guys: #). In this case, the hashtag you’ll want to search for is #VegNewsChat. If you’re still confused, here’s a helpful guide about Twitter Chats: “Tweeting With Your Twitter Community: How to Participate in a Twitter Chat.”

According to VegNews,

Join in on Tuesday, February 22 at 6pm PST/9pm EST and search for the hashtag #VegNewsChat. Kris will be chatting under her handle @Kris_Carr and @VegNews will be moderating the discussion. Chime in with your comments and questions and add the hashtag #VegNewsChat at the end of your tweet.

Here’s what a sample chat might look like:

From @jchenwriter: @Kris_Carr, why is green juice so great for our bodies? #VegNewsChat.

From @VegNews: Great question @jchenwriter. Also, is fresh green juice better than bottled? #VegNewsChat

From @Kris_Carr: Green juice is best fresh. It replenishes our bodies with great nutrients. #VegNewsChat

So easy, a child can (sort-of) do it.

I love idea of using Twitter chats to promote veganism and animal rights! They might even be a perfect opportunity to extend beyond just the AR crowd and bridge some other issues, like having a discussion with other social justice pioneers so that we can all learn about the others’ cause.

By the way, you should know that my own personal Twitter love affair has finally begun. Even though I was a late bloomer, I have arrived. So follow Our Hen House (@ourhenhouse) and join the pithy discussion. In the mean time, I’ll see you virtually at the VegNews/Kris Carr Twitter chat!
