Tonight at 9 p.m. EST, I will be joining Nathan Runkle, Ari Solomon, and Dan Hanley in a Twitter chat hosted by VegNews Magazine, with the topic being gay rights and animal rights. They are calling it a “Vegan Pride Parade,” and, according to VegNews, the gist is this: “In honor of LGBT Pride Month, we’ll be talking with prominent gay animal-rights activists about the connection between both movements.” It will be an interesting challenge to consolidate my thoughts into 140 characters or less, but I am up for the challenge — especially given the honor it is to be in such esteemed company.
The upcoming Twitter chat also means that I only have a matter of hours to figure out how, technically speaking, to actually do a Twitter chat. All you have to do is follow VegNews’ handy guide explaining how to tune in. In short, join us at the hashtag #VegNewsChat. The lovely VegNews editors will be hosting the chat, and a Twitter account is not necessary to participate (but, really, why don’t you tweet? Even our dog, Rose, tweets).
Also in honor of “Pride,” VegNews published an article on their website today in which they asked me and my co-chat-mates a few questions about our thoughts on the interconnections between gay rights and animal rights. This is, of course, something I’ve spoken about extensively in a few articles (where, thankfully, I had more than 140 characters) — including in an article for The Scavenger, one for Satya, another for Toastermag, as well as directing a video of Nathan Runkle for our Gay Animal series.
Want more info, or have some of your own thoughts to share on the overarching umbrella of gay rights and animal rights? Get your thoughts a little more succinct, and we’ll chat tonight!
