We hens have some upcoming squawking engagements we wanted to tell you about, in hopes you can join us for one or a few of them.
First of all, tonight, I will be co-presenting a workshop with Mercy for Animals’ Director of Operations, Matt Rice, called “Commonality of Oppression,” taking place in New York City at the MFA Advocacy Center, 332 E. 88th Street between 1st and 2nd Ave. We will be exploring the intersections between animal rights and other social justice movements, including the mindset of the oppressors. The workshop will also cover some of the fascinating characteristics of farm animals, and a little bit of Veganism 101. This workshop is part of the Changemaker Series, a series of workshops that Our Hen House has been presenting for MFA for the past year. Learn more and RSVP.
October is a busy month for us. First, from October 14-16, Mariann and I will be at the Lewis & Clark Animal Law Conference in Portland, OR, where we will present a workshop entitled “Enough Already: Do Something for Animals!” We will be discussing how each and every one of us can make a significant difference by unleashing our creativity, being doggedly persistent, and following our dreams to create a better world for animals. Learn more.
Then, we’ll be heading to New Orleans, where, on October 28, Mariann will be among the panelists speaking at the 3rd Annual Animal Law Section CLE of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Entitled “Animal Law 3.0: 2011 Issues and Beyond,” topics on the agenda will include the legal ramifications of the animal welfare harms and environmental harms of factory farming. Learn more and RSVP.
The next day, on October 29, Mariann and I are delighted beyond belief to be speaking at the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival in Boston, MA. Our workshop, “Shifting to a Plant Based Diet: Techniques and Tips for Your Walk on the Green Side,” will cover the nuts and bolts of making transitions toward a vegan lifestyle, including everything from the social quandaries, to tips on how to successfully navigate through a not (yet) vegan world. Learn more.
And here are two save the dates for you for November. On November 2, in NYC, we’re preparing a fun and fundraiser on the Lower East Side. There will be goodies, good times, good friends, and Soy White Russians! We’ll have our Etsy items for sale, and we’ll be offering a raffle prize to end all raffle prizes to one lucky winner. Oh, and it’s in honor of my birthday, so help me celebrate! More info coming soon, or email adrianne[at]ourhenhouse.org to be looped in.
On November 4, we’ll be giving a special presentation called “Let the Doughnut Do the Talking: Food as Activism” at the Montclair Vegans Meet-Up in Montclair, NJ. At this, the most popular of our workshops, we will discuss the multitude of ways we can each change the world through food activism. More info about this event will be on our website soon, or stay tuned to the Montclair Vegans website.
Phew. Okay, now I’m nervous. To inquire about booking one of our workshops in your community, email info[at]ourhenhouse.org. Hope to see you at one of these events. Let’s get squawking!
