Welcome to the Flock (And to Your Very First Discount Code)

Dearest Chicks,
Hold onto your tail feathers…
If you are reading this, that means that you are one of the people who are responsible for building Our Hen House. Whether you are a long-time financial supporter, or a brand new member of the flock, we are so incredibly grateful that you have our backs. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. In exchange for your generous support, we are so thrilled to offer you a corner of the nest reserved solely for you, our darling flock.

True, this is not a hen. But don’t you just adore this bluebird? This gorgeous photo, and the featured photo in this blog, is by OHH supporter Chris Taylor, of Wild Love Photography.

Among the many things we are excited about in this new phase of Our Hen House is the opportunity to provide you with exclusive content. #PRIVATE# Since you’re the ones who are here right at the start of this new chapter, we wanted to both welcome you and give you an idea of what you can expect. And we’d also like to hear from you about the kind of content you would like to see. We’ll be rolling out exclusive content as we go, so keep your eyes open! We are at the very start of this new area, and so it’s an exciting time to be joining. Here are some of the things we’re working on for the flock area:
Let’s talk discounts. Vegan businesses are such an important part of our community. Thanks to their ongoing generosity, we are going to be able to introduce  you to so many  fine vegan products. To get you started, since it is, after all, the holiday season, if you shop at the fabulous vegan store Herbivore, and type in the code “HENHOUSE” when you check out, you will get 20% off your entire order!
Are you an Our Hen House podcast listener? (If you’re not, you’d better clear your schedule, since we’re currently in production for our 153rd consecutive weekly episode!) The Our Hen House podcast is, of course, free to all. And we want it that way, since we want to reach as wide an audience as possible with the message that it’s up to all of us to change the world for animals. But sometimes some of our guests may settle in and get comfortable and offer a few extra insights just for the flock. We can’t wait to share them with you.
Howzabout lectures? Mariann is accustomed to sharing with our podcast listeners some of the highlights of her animal law classes, in a segment we like to call “The Professor and Mariann.” (Buh-dum-bum!) But during the short segment, there’s not enough time to really get serious about the ins and outs of animal law. So here in the flock area, she’ll be sharing some more in-depth discussions of animal law issues with you — geared for even non-lawyers — ranging from her thoughts on ag-gag laws to pit bull bans. In addition, we will be calling on experts in other fields to share in-depth information that can help you advocate for animals.
And we all love recipes, right? Vegan food bloggers are the best. And a bunch of them will be saving their most scrumptious vegan recipes for the Our Hen House flock. In fact, don’t miss Carrie Forrest’s recipe for Cream of Kabocha Squash soup, which you can find here in the flock area.
We also adore writers and thinkers, which you have probably gathered as you’ve browsed around on our new online magazine. The animal advocacy movement is full of the brightest, most compassionate, most knowledgeable, most thoughtful people in the world. You’ll find them right here on Our Hen House, with personal commentary, short stories, and insightful analysis. They will also be offering added exclusive flock content, because let’s face it, we’re special.
And? Who knows? Every step of the journey we have taken since we started Our Hen House has led us to places that we never imagined when we began. We truly believe that this next phase will be the same, and that opportunities will arise that we hadn’t even thought of until they’re right before us. The world is starting to wake up to what’s happening to animals, and as people learn that there is another way, seismic shifts are possible. We want our flock to be at the vanguard of the changes that are to come, and we want to be providing the tools that we all need to get us there faster.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing the burden of knowing what’s happening, and the passion for doing what must be done to change the world for animals. Our Hen House would not exist without your support and enthusiasm, and we welcome you to this intimate space where we can explore together.
With love and gratitude,
Jasmin and Mariann (the hens)
